🟥 HANNA BARAKAT is a Palestinian American athlete who represented Palestine in the women’s 100m in Tokyo. Hanna has wanted to use her passion for sprinting to bring more representation to Palestine. She is completing an honours program in International Development Studies focusing in Modern Culture & New Media.
🟩 AHED TAMIMI, the teen activist who became a PALESTINIAN NATIONAL SYMBOL has captured headlines internationally. She has protested against land confiscation and the exploitation of natural resources for settlement construction around the village of Nabi Saleh in the West Bank since she was a young child. At the age of 16, she was arrested, subjected to Israeli military court processes and jailed for 8 months after a live video of her confronting Israeli soldiers was spread online. She is currently pursuing studies in international law at BirzeitUniversity.
🟥 FROM SOUTH AFRICA: William Shoki is an MA student at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg where he chairs the Palestine Solidarity Committee. He is also a writer and podcaster for Africa Is A Country.
🟩 FROM USA: Sharif Zakout who is a Bay Area born and raised organizer and artist. He works for the Arab Resource & Organizing Center (AROC) in San Francisco, CA. His family comes from the al-Majdal Asqalan region in Palestine. He is passionate about creating art and music that uplfit international solidarity with Palestine, linking different struggles, and highlighting collective resistance.
⬛️ This webinar Series aimed at connecting over impactful conversations celebrate the triumphs, resilience, strengths and challenges of youth globally from Palestine, South Africa, USA and diaspora internationally, will be hosted by journalist JANNA JIHAD, Shamsaan’s ambassador. The aim is to create platforms that encourage real conversations; generates and strengthens awareness on issues, the exchange of ideas and inspired virtual connections that builds national, regional + international networks to advance intersectional struggles.
